Sound and Stone is a truly unique album based on the incredible sound stones of Hannes and

Klaus Fessmann. For the first time, some of the world’s most forward-thinking music producers

have been given exclusive access to the world's first virtual sound stone.

‘I was immediately fascinated by the Fessmann

family’s legacy and their dedication to extracting sound from stone. All materials contain resonant frequencies which often go unheard but in this case they have made the stones sing!’

German sculptor and sound stone maker Hannes Fessmann has been making stone instruments for over 25 years. Alongside his father and long-time collaborator Professor Klaus Fessmann,they have elevated the ancient art of stone instrument making to astonishing new levels of beauty, craftsmanship and sonic capability.

‘Sculpting sound that originated from another sculptured piece is an intriguing concept, exploring the recordings was as exciting as it was endless, the raw resonance of the sound stone on its own is incredible' Afonso Ferreira.

Tomonari Nozaki, James Leyland Kirby, Steven M Halliday, Monty Adkins, Yves De Mey and

Rutger Zuydervelt (Machinefabriek) sculpted a breath-taking suite of sound stone compositions.

The album forms the final phase of Steven M Halliday's two-year research project into the Fessmann sound stones and will be available through all major digital platforms and a limited edition

cassette bundled with a sound stone sample pack containing audio samples of the Halliday/Fessmann

sound stone which can be used in your favorite DAW, sampler or granular engine. (when purchased through Bandcamp) .
